Whats the deal with this?

I have opened a reseller hosting account with Reseller accounts are like wholesale server space. They separate the the nitty gritty server maintenance from the customer support aspect of the of the hosting business. For $15 a month I get 2 gigs of disk space and tons of control over the software aspect of maintaining a web site. This makes me a web host of sorts.

Why do that?

Having a reseller account gives me all of the control of owning my own server without having to worry about maintaining the hardware and keeping up with system level software. I was paying close to the same amount to rent a fraction of the space from another hosting company which turned out to be a reseller themselves.

What's in it for you?

The point of my getting the account was not to make money on it. I am not establishing myself as a commercial reseller. With that in mind, I am willing to share this enormous space and power with friends and family for minimal costs. I am offering fully featured hosting plans for as little as $25 - $50 per year (yup, that is really supposed to say per YEAR). Take a look at the hosting section for more information.

What could you use a hosting account for?

A hosting account by itself is simply hard drive space which can be accessed from any computer with an Internet connection. Each hosting account is also given access to a ton of other features that you would expect from a web site such as email, database connectivity, message boards, web logs, and tech support.

Some quick things you can use this for:

  • A web site
  • File storage
  • Reliable, personalized Email address
There is a bunch more, but these are fast things you can do with minimal technical knowledge. Take a look at the “building a web site” section if you want some pointers on taking it a step further.
